Welcome to the World Kai Griffin Campbell!

On Sunday, September 4th, at 5:31 a.m., Kai Griffin Campbell came into the world weighing 9lbs 5oz and measuring 20 inches long! We are all so in love with our big, healthy boy!

His birth was fast and furious - we arrived at the hospital at 4:45 a.m. and to our surprise, he was born VERY quickly after our arrival. Although there was no time for any drugs, I am thankful his birth was at least very quick! Because he was so large and the labor so fast, the doctor had to break his arm in an emergency extraction because he was stuck and struggling to breathe. With another push or two though he was thankfully out- breathing, healthy and strong (despite the broken arm, of course).

Due to his broken arm and lack of oxygen during birth, Kai was taken to the NICU for a day or so where he was watched carefully and stabilized. Although it was unfortunate that he had to suffer a broken arm from the get-go, he is a tough boy and we are all incredibly thankful that he has no cleft issues or any other severe issue. We can totally deal with a broken arm, and, knowing how our family operates, we have a feeling that this most likely will not be his last broken bone!

We had a somewhat difficult time naming our big beautiful boy, especially since naming him Nat Calvin Campbell V was a viable, and pretty cool option. However, after his wild birth, we decided on Kai, which means "unbreakable strength" in Burmese, and Griffin, after "Griffin's Butte," one of our favorite landmarks in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Kai already has an incredibly mellow and sweet disposition, and is such a big, happy love. He sleeps and eats fairly well and having not been able to breast feed with Cora, Kai and I are both learning how this whole breast feeding thing works (and we both think it's pretty awesome!).

His arm is healing nicely and it should only be in a sling another couple of weeks. It's amazing that after only about five weeks of being in a sling, a newborn's broken arm will magically kneed and heal back together in such a short time. Again, we feel so lucky and this is definitely something we can all easily work with.

Both Nana and Papa and Buddy and Pooh Bah have been amazing help over these past two and a half weeks as we all try to get settled into somewhat of a routine. Kai has of course been up a lot at night, and having the help in our exhausted haze has been invaluable. We don't know what we would do without them all.

Cora is LOVING her new brother, who she calls "Little Fluff" because of his soft head. She has helped feed him, change his diaper, hold him and help me with all sorts of odds and ends. She also gets up some nights and helps with night time feedings, although I think she really just wants an excuse to snuggle us. She is doing incredibly well with this transition and loves "her baby" fiercely.

We feel so blessed that this little guy is now part of our family. He is truly incredible!
